Public awareness campaign for disaster response

Reducing the negative effects of natural disasters is also possible through information campaigns for raising awareness of the populations of both countries with a view to preparedness in dealing with critical situations, with the support of modern equipment. Information campaigns should include different measures to disseminate information to people. Within the project, information campaigns will be organized and implemented in Dobrichka Municipality and in the County of Calarasi.

The information campaign in Bulgaria will be aimed at the following target group: - the total population of Dobrich municipality is 22 081 people, and in the other borders of municipalities in Dobrich district - 167 596 people. The information campaign will help the population to understand how to prevent floods and to act in case of emergency. It will also target young people in schools, where presentations should be organized and brochures containing information on prevention and specific measures to mitigate the adverse effects of natural and other disasters will be disseminated.

The awareness campaign includes the following activities:
Organization including:

• processing of the recorded simulation exercises and creation of video material (with English and Romanian subtitles / voicing. Making 5 broadcasts in the media of the created video material in the Cross-border region;
• production, printing and distribution of a brochure - 1000 copies (min. 8 pages);
• organizing 10 events in schools;

Campaign results will include:

• raising the awareness of the population about possible disasters and accidents, as well as the direct and indirect participation of people, raising the awareness of the population about the preventive measures that the population should undertake, in the event of disasters, etc.
• 1000 brochures will be handed out to individuals with advice on what to do and how to respond in an emergency, in order to deal with the situation effectively. With the planned presentations for the campaign in schools and other institutions, the population will be aware of all possible measures that should be taken in the event of an emergency.

The residents of regions, eligible for intervention, involved in this project, who are or could be affected by the effects and damage caused by disasters will benefit from the information campaign planned to be implemented under this project.
